We’re fundraising for some equipment to enable us to produce accessible video content in British Sign Language (BSL) for the deaf community. We want to make a “BSL Library” of information for deaf people in their first language, breaking down barriers and providing equality of access to information.

At the moment the vast majority of information, both produced by us, and by wider society it only available in English. This is a second language for profoundly deaf people who communicate via BSL and English comprehension levels are often very low as a result of the lack of support for deaf people throughout their education.

BSL is a minority language and we feel it is vital to provide equality for the deaf community by providing information in their first language.

At Nottinghamshire Deaf Society, we have the staff skills and experience but not the equipment to enable us to make the videos or software to edit them and add subtitles. Your support would make this possible.

Thank you for your time and we hope that we can rely on your support for our project.
